How recommendations are chosen
Affiliate participation does not influence which products we recommend. Our editorial process:
- Products are evaluated against the use case (e.g., "best portable power station for home backup during a multi-day outage").
- Whenever possible, we prefer products we have hands-on experience with or that are widely recognized in the preparedness community.
- Specifications are verified against manufacturer datasheets, official safety standards (UL, FCC, NOAA), and government guidance (FEMA, NWS, USGS).
- Recommendations are reviewed by the editorial team before publication.
- If a recommended product is later shown to underperform, be discontinued, or be subject to a safety recall, we update the article and mark the update date.
We do not accept payment from manufacturers to feature, rank, or favorably review their products.
Clear marking on every page
On any page that contains affiliate links, we display a short inline disclosure near the top of the article — before the first affiliate link appears — so you know what to expect as you read.
The HTML attributes on every affiliate link include rel="sponsored nofollow" so that the link is identified to search engines as a paid placement, consistent with current FTC and Google guidance.
